MARK J WILLISON

Mark is a lifelong aficionado of all things that celebrate the automobile in motion. With ten years’ experience as a published motorsport photographer and eight years as an editorial motorsport writer, he channels his passion into visual and written content that engages experts and armchair fans alike.

His work takes him to high-profile motoring events including the world-famous Goodwood Revival, Salon Prive and the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Such events allow him to capture visually arresting, candid images of vehicles that define the motoring spirit of generations – from the classics of the Edwardian era through to the modern day machines that are defining the world of future transportation.

For Mark, the story of a car cannot be told by just an image of car itself. Beyond subtleties of a vehicle’s design, Mark documents the personalities that are linked with these machines; the drivers, teams and consequently, the politics that surround them along with the geography, topography and history of the circuits that formed the stage for the associated legends to play on. His work effortlessly captures these complex elements and delivers more than just a staged beauty shot, but rather a tale of the pieces and parts of how the whole came to be.

In quiet moments, he also enjoys re-reading articles from his wordsmith heroes: Alan Henry, Bill Body and Denis Jenkinson to name a few. Mark’s work has further seen him work as a vehicle researcher, tracing provenance as well as providing photography and literary review for those looking to document storied histories of unique and personally significant vehicles.
